Hi there,

It seems that spring has sprung, and I for one am thrilled about it!

Usually at this point I fill you in on recent painting activities, developments and upcoming events.  This time, slightly differently, I’m going to get my little violin out and feel sorry for myself (just briefly). After the Fresh Art fair, I had a brilliant, freezing trip to the Isle of Man, thumping great oceans all over the island and howling winds – amazing, inspiring and just what I needed!

I came home in time to mentally and physically prepare for my eye surgery a couple of weeks ago. Cataract, I am the youngest person I know that’s ever had one, and it’s a record I’d rather not have had, but that’s life. I have held my vision and how I see dearly for many years, and so this was a big deal. My new lens and I are still getting acquainted, but on the whole, it’s a big improvement. What surprised me was how my paintings have expanded and become more roomy, bigger skies and simpler colours since the operation. I actually put this down to the lack of anxiety, knowing that this elephant in the room (my misty old lens) has now been dealt with, and that this is my new normal. Incidentally, the world is a little bit bluer through this lens as well as stronger contrast and crispier edges… So the way I see when I paint is likely to change a little moving forward with my new hardware!

I also have this nagging, irritating (driving me mad) tennis (painters) elbow, it’s been going on for months. If any of you have an elbow specialist in your address book, let me know. I even DM’d Andy Murray, as a fellow Wimbledon local, I know he has really suffered with tennis elbow over the years, I felt sure he was just the right person to advise me. Sadly, he didn’t reply, but not a big surprise really! I might try his Mum instead, Judy is also local, and probably not quite as busy.

Moan over!

I am busy preparing for the upcoming Wimbledon Art Fair in May, I’m working on a new 40cm-sized square boards, loving the mid-size range and what with all the ailments, I can’t paint on a bigger size until that’s all cleared up. It’s a series of land/sky/sea scapes, and about to start a triptych which will be interesting. I’d love to see you in Wimbledon in May, click HERE for more information.

My website is changing a little, hopefully easier to navigate around. Thank you for sending through photos of my paintings in situ, it just makes my day to see where they go, and how they integrate into your lives, it blows my mind.

That’s it for now, enjoy coming out of hibernation and stay well, thank you for your interest in my art, I am and always will be forever grateful.

Alison
