What a beautiful month this has been!
Overwhelming amounts of blossom and greenery everywhere I look, how could I not be moved to paint just a little bit of it. Actually, I’m feeling inspired to paint a bit more of it, heading out for some plein air painting in May after our Open Studio.
As I write the birds are delivering an abundance of song. I’ve heard of an app that identifies which bird is singing which song, although maybe I don’t need to know, maybe I can just enjoy the music without needing to know too much more.
I am getting used to my new space at Wimbledon Art Studios, sharing is an experience I haven’t had since Art School! So far, so good, and I think as time progresses, I will come to enjoy seeing other peoples’ work develop as my own does. Working in isolation is not always good for us.
It is just a couple of weeks until the Open Studio and that means one thing – framing, groan. I have dusted off my equipment and will be getting everything looking finished and ready for the 14-17th May. You will find me in RED Studio number 290 for the show. I’m right by the door at the top of the first set of stairs, come and find me and see what I have been up to since November. I am also clearing out lots of drawings and prints from years gone by, a nice time to pick up something different.
I do not say it enough, but your support helps me so much. Not only to keep going financially, but also, this life as an Artist is for me, working away (mostly alone) month after month, existing at a point where what I’m doing makes perfect sense to me, but possibly none at all to anyone on the ‘outside’. Then I test the water by hanging it up and inviting people to view what I’ve made. It is completely nerve wracking. So when you turn up and give me feedback it is a huge relief. Better still, sometimes you buy some of it and I go skipping home rejuvenated and encouraged and ready to get back into the studio and paint again. To all of you that have offered words of encouragement and to those that have bought paintings, a heartfelt thank you.
Lastly Square Dover is continuing the beautiful show ‘A Day on the Cliffs’ all the way until the end of May, featuring the paintings from my episode of Sky Arts’ Landscape Artist of the Year! If you have a chance, go and see these paintings, all together, it is one special day and a moment in time that the other artists and I created!
Right, those paintings are not going to frame themselves, so I will stop now. Hope to see you in May, otherwise, you might see me up on Wimbledon Common in coming months, drawing and painting, or maybe just listening to the birdsong.
Bye for now Alison
