Hello there,
Apologies for the radio silence for the last 3 months! Summer came and went (some may argue it actually did not come at all this year), and I find myself suddenly in October and seeing the stunning skies and beautiful colours of autumn as we roll slowly to the end of the year.
Paintings have been done, scraped off and done again, and again. My journey with oil paint continues, and I like to think in the right direction. Patience (not my strong suit) is being learned and I have found it useful to keep my acrylic paint nearby for when I need a release into colour and an instant lift. I continue with oils as the buttery smudge is like nothing else, in case you were wondering why I persevere!
I had a busy September, an open house shared with my good friend in her beautiful kitchen https://melbarrettstudio.com/ with her equally beautiful prints and paintings. Now, I am beginning to gear up for the November Open Studio in Wimbledon. November 14-17, I would love to see you there and I will send out full opening times and more details nearer the time, but my all means put it in your diary!
If you have a chance, the Expressionist exhibition at Tate Modern is well worth a visit, Kandinsky, Münter and the Blue Rider, until October 20. Truly inspiring friendships that led to deeper and richer work, it’s beautiful.
You will see a photo above, where one of my larger paintings was used on loan to add a finishing touch to a wonderful house renovation, completed by Susanne at Space Shack. I was thrilled to see my work positioned in this stunning home, alongside some other awesome artists. Working with designers is a new and brilliant way to have your work ‘seen’, as well as architects, I really like this way of show casing my paintings. I love working on big pieces, and it’s not always easy to visualise how they can fit into spaces, so this really helps me too!
See you soon,
Alison
