Hi there,
This month has presented me with the most beautiful skies, array of leaf colour, boggy walks, some time for painting and even a wander around Tate Modern, drinking in some incredible work.
Hard to believe November is upon us, and our Wimbledon Art Fair, Open Studio starts in just a few days. 6-9 November in case you needed to know. My top tip if you are driving is either to park at the big Lidl supermarket and walk through, or park on Maskell Road where you can stay longer, and it’s dirt cheap. Not the only thing that’s good value (nice segment hey) as the 180 artists showing will have a huge range of pieces and prices to suit everyone. If you make it, come and see me at RED studio number 208 and yes to those that have already asked I will bring the mince pies.
So, my work has progressed. I’ve moved into snow and also into bigger landscapes again, I’ve got a couple of 1 meter plus paintings, and my small series has slightly grown to around 40x40cm. I’m getting into diptychs again, I love how one painting can spill into two so easily, it changes the limits, and the results are always interesting.
The winter plan is to re-commence oil painting, I want to bring in the mind-blowing blending of oils, if I can stop myself from turning them into a big brown mush in time! I will let you know when spring appears how I’ve got on.
Just back to the Tate, the Australian artist I saw, Emily Kam Kngwarray, her work is like no other. She encompasses the land, skies and waters of her country with so much detail and beauty, I found it breathtaking. I lived in Tasmania until I was 11, the stories, the myth and the histories were never wasted on me. Amazing how we come full circle in our inspiration and influences, in the end it all merges into one, it is no coincidence that quite a few of my paintings are reminiscent of my childhood and what moved me even then.
Right, as you well know, if there is an Open Studio coming, I really need to finish the framing! Hope to see you there, otherwise the website is up to date, and I will post on social media as usual in the run up to the show. I always offer my subscribers the chance to reserve paintings ahead of the opening, if there is anything you’d like me to hold for you, just let me know.
Many thanks as always,
Alison
