Wimbledon Art Fair was a roller coaster four days which ended with a beautiful Sunday filled with lovely chat, new faces, old faces (always so very good to see you!). I spent some time nosing around my neighbour’s studios, which was enlightening and inspiring. Much as I relish my days at Tate and the National etc there is nothing like seeing what is going on with the other Red studio artists. - [Wimbledon Art Fair 8-11 May 2025](https://alison-clarke.com/2025/05/02/wimbledon-art-fair-8-11-may-2025/): Bank holiday weekend! - [April Newsletter](https://alison-clarke.com/2025/04/24/april-newsletter/): April has been a blur, mostly of snow after time up in the French Alps, can I paint mountains? Summer came and went (some may argue it actually did not come at all this year), and I find myself suddenly in October and seeing the stunning skies and beautiful colours of autumn as we roll slowly to the end of the year. Paintings have been done, scraped off and done again, and again. My journey with oil paint continues, and I like to think in the right direction. Patience (not my strong suit) is being learned and I have found it useful to keep my acrylic paint nearby for when I need a release into colour and an instant lift. I continue with oils as the buttery smudge is like nothing else, in case you were wondering why I persevere! I had a busy September, an open house shared with my good friend in her beautiful kitchen https://melbarrettstudio.com/ with her equally beautiful prints and paintings. Now, I am beginning to gear up for the November Open Studio in Wimbledon. November 14-17, I would love to see you there and I will send out full opening times and more details nearer the time, but my all means put it in your diary! If you have a chance, the Expressionist exhibition at Tate Modern is well worth a visit, Kandinsky, Münter and the Blue Rider, until October 20. Truly inspiring friendships that led to deeper and richer work, it's beautiful. You will see a photo above, where one of my larger paintings was used on loan to add a finishing touch to a wonderful house renovation, completed by Susanne at Space Shack. I was thrilled to see my work positioned in this stunning home, alongside some other awesome artists. Working with designers is a new and brilliant way to have your work 'seen', as well as architects, I really like this way of show casing my paintings.  I love working on big pieces, and it's not always easy to visualise how they can fit into spaces, so this really helps me too! - [Alison Clarke July Newsletter](https://alison-clarke.com/2024/07/09/alison-clarke-july-newsletter/): Hello there, Well, this muted summer we are having does nothing to dampen my appreciation of the 'soft box' type light and mossy colours which are all around us these last few weeks, but some crystal blue sky would not go amiss either - any time soon please! I've been diving back into oil paint since the Wimbledon Art Fair in May, it is a slow process (in every way), but the beautiful way the paint moves and slithers around like room temperature butter, is like nothing else. The tendency to overwork and turn my canvases into squares of mud coloured paint is testing my patience, but when it works - boy it's a good feeling. Normally I show you lots of recent work in these emails, today, just a couple - nothing else feels close enough to completion to share at this stage! The next Open Studio dates have just been released, 14-17 November, pop it in your diary. You never know, I might have finished a few oil paintings by then - or reverted back to my trusted acrylic paints! I will be in France in August, and planning on spending some time contemplating the sea. Maybe it's time for me to revisit that love affair, the ocean holds so much for me and the challenges to capture the spirit and movement and sense of space is a big wonderful one. I will do my best to update my social media pages with artwork as well as bucket and spade photos. June was a wonderful month, quite a few paintings found their forever homes, and welcome to my new subscribers! Alison - [Alison Clarke June Newsletter](https://alison-clarke.com/2024/06/03/alison-clarke-june-newsletter/): Hi there, - [Wimbledon Art Fair 2024 9-12 May](https://alison-clarke.com/2024/05/03/wimbledon-art-fair-2024-9-12-may/): Hi all, - [April 2024 Newsletter](https://alison-clarke.com/2024/04/05/april-2024-newsletter/): Hi there, - [February 2024 Round-up](https://alison-clarke.com/2024/03/01/february-2024-round-up/): February has happened at record speed after the 135-day long January! - [February 2024 Newsletter](https://alison-clarke.com/2024/02/09/february-2024-newsletter/): So here we are!  - [November 2023 Newsletter](https://alison-clarke.com/2023/11/29/november-newsletter/): Hi there, - [Wimbledon Art Fair](https://alison-clarke.com/2023/11/11/wimbledon-art-fair/): Hi there, I’m loving the chill in the air, the dark, smudgy, stunning colours that nature conjures up during these early Winter days - also the skies are beginning to take on that magical light you only find when the sun is so low. So, final stretch up to Christmas, hurrah, but first: Wimbledon Art Fair, Open Studio! I will be there from Thursday 16th November through to Sunday 19th in Studio 208 (top floor RED studio), helpers will be there to direct you if you can't find me. I’m thrilled with my new clients, my existing ones and chuffed that my work is now in your homes/work spaces, I hope giving inspiration and colour to your days. January has been really busy, so much new work underway. I'm working on a couple of different series, one almost verging on figurative! The hulking shapes of boats washed up, waiting for the tide, still soaking up my inspiration from my trip to Cornwall in October. Second series, more abstract, deep blues, big seas, little safe harbours, ghostly pale fog and mist. I’m loving the wintery colours and textures around us all, and have been taking a lot of photos - all somehow gets worked into my paintings. I'm planning some day trips to the coast, Reculver and Deal in Kent and then Norfolk - a long trip to Holkham, one of my favourites. Essentially drawing expeditions, and to gather my thoughts and inspiration. In the meantime, in the studio, I've been expanding - my drawings and paintings – I’m still enjoying my 30cm x 30cm little ones, but my enormous 10m roll of canvas and paper has been getting some activity - the upscale is really liberating! Mark making takes on a whole new meaning - and I’m regularly in the local builders merchant looking for larger brushes. What I need now is a gallery to take my finished work off my hands - which will give me room to paint more. If you have any preferred galleries, would you let me know? I find many London galleries are overcrowded and oversubscribed, but all suggestions welcomed. www.alisonsattic.co.uk is updated with the latest work, as yet unframed, but that will be done in due course. If you are interested in these or any older ones, just drop me a line. A more sketchy but broader display of work in progress is on my Instagram page.   Thank you as always, your support means the world to me! Alison - [November 2022 Newsletter](https://alison-clarke.com/2022/11/11/november-2022-newsletter/): Welcome to my November newsletter! Okay, it's my end of year newsletter, in which I have the chance to reflect on this year and let you know my plans for 2023. I love to look back at where I was and where I am now, artistically speaking. My work has grown into an exciting and dynamic new way of seeing for me. I have followed on from the ocean paintings of 2020, through the reflection of landscapes in 2021 and this year I have explored depth, colour, texture and working in a way that feels instinctive, more intuitive. I still see crashing waves and landscapes in them, but they are abstracted.   ## Pages - [Sky Landscape Artist of the Year 2026](https://alison-clarke.com/sky-landscape-artist-of-the-year-2026/): Landscape Artist of the Year was a whirlwind experience. From the initial shock at the phone call to invite me to take part as a pod artist, to the long conversations with the production team on how it all works. Waking up in Dover at 6am to head to the White Cliffs National Trust location fuelled with adrenalin and not much else and ready to paint, just a few weeks after that initial conversation. - [2026 Wimbledon Art Fair May Collection](https://alison-clarke.com/2026-wimbledon-art-fair-may-collection/): 2026 Wimbledon Art Fair May Collection - [2025 Wimbledon Art Fair Collection](https://alison-clarke.com/2025-wimbledon-art-fair-collection/): 2025 Wimbledon Art Fair Collection - [Potential home page](https://alison-clarke.com/potential-home-page/) - [Alison’s Attic](https://alison-clarke.com/11441-2/): Before Alison became a dedicated Fine Artist, she worked prolifically in event photography working with corporate clients Vodafone, Pepsi Co and MasterCard. Everything starts with drawing, colour leads me, texture guides me and in the end my brush strokes are a landscape in themselves. I break free into vast open spaces with enormous sky and silence. Sometimes empty and bleak, sometimes warm and inviting. Contemporary, abstract landscape painted with expression and passion. ## Mikado Portfolio - [Unrespected Fade](https://alison-clarke.com/portfolio-item/unrespected-fade/): Acrylic on linen 40x40cm - [The tangled web we leave](https://alison-clarke.com/portfolio-item/the-tangled-web-we-leave/): Acrylic on linen 80x60cm -
